mileage update

i am still plugging away at the running program - i am up to 2.5 miles per day. i run at least 4 days a week - so i am up to 10 miles per week. for non-runners that it is about the distance between two small towns :)
now i just have to figure out a way to combine all that into one day...eek!

jack's visit

so jack frost came to town and left this part of western pa a nice wintery mix!

slushy roads, black ice and 4-5 inches of snow....
the down side of not teaching public education...no cancellations for me b/c universtities very rarely cancel classes :(

i knew there would eventually be some type of drawback - now I know!

easy like sunday morning

sleeping in until 7, keith's pancakes for breakfast, church and my favorite hymn on the board for communion, ally taking a long nap, spaghetti dinner and downtime with the family...
makes sundays easy and relaxing - so much that i am dreading the beginning of a long work week like so many others.

in response to the hair ordeal

claire, i was almost desperate enough to borrow your mullet wig! but at the last minute, i realized that my hair was just one step up from the wig, so i canceled the thought :)

arinn, i would have to say this experience was pretty comparable to CA...just one big disappointment!

jamie, i almost forgot you saw me at christmas - which was the worst. by the way... you will have to share those pictures of us around the tree, so claire and arinn can a get a full view of the rachel mullet!

thanks for the support - and yes, i should find a way to post this so miss becky can see how much i do truly miss her!

this will be a good conversation piece - for your next appt with her!

missing becky - 4 real!

ok, here is the dilemma...
i had the perfect situation in carolina with my hairstylist. she knew just what to do and how to do it. she had style, grace and intuition.
upon moving, i tried to fill the void of becky with another stylist who was similar and a salon just as cute. MISTAKE NO. 1...of many.
it has been quite a disappointment. i haven't liked my hair for the past 6 months, but stayed loyal only to come back again and again unsatisfied. i don't particular mind the highlights, but the cut is horrible. yes, i can finally say it aloud - horrible! i couldn't quite put my finger on it until today, when i finally realized that she did WAY too much texturizing during the cut. only to leave my hair looking shaggy and choppy- yep that is the best way to describe it. so to combat the texturizing nightmare she tried to trim it more. my hair was left looking like an 80's/90's cut, caught between a mullet and a rachel! no joke! it was hideous.
i am 7 weeks outside of my last disaster cut and i have since let the hair grow in quite a bit, but still, it needs some work. i have my first appointment with my new stylist next week - am i nervous? heck yeah! but this time i will be much more specific about details, supply a picture and stress to her how conservative i am, esp. about my hair.
keith has been urging me to see someone else, but i stayed loyal for far too long - i guess that was a nice way of him telling me that he didn't like my hair - mr. passive-aggressive himself :)
as for ashley, my sis, she just cut the chase and said - what the hell happend to your hair?
my reply, "I MISS BECKY!"
my advice to anyone desperately seeking a new hairstylist...get some recommendations!
i will be sure to post about new experience - hopefully i can look less like a MOM in her 40's!

balance

to me finding balance in my life is always a struggle. i find most days a long journey of sorts that has tons of winding curves to steer into as well miniature hills to climb. finding a balance somewhere between extreme chaos and pure bliss is quite an adventure in an very exhausting way.
i was thinking the other day at the gym about what keeps me in some sort of balance on a daily basis...i thought it was odd what first came to mind besides exercising, getting enough sleep and eating healthy - i decided it was so much deeper than that.

what keeps me in balance, is a combination of things that i tend to take advantage of from time to time. such as: jamming out to my tunes in my car and singing out loud where no one but me can hear, knowing koda and logan will be waiting for me each day with lots of hugs and kisses, seeing ally's smile and feeling her warm hugs morning and night, seeing keith walk through the door each night only to greet us all with open arms, family dinners, and giving ally our undivided attention at night before bathtime...at the end of the day i tend to take a good hard look in the mirror and wonder if the person who is staring back at me knows they are lucky to have such a blessed life.

the answer is YES - even when things are all out of balance i do know that the smaller things in life are always greater when appreciated from afar.

i picture life much like a journey of twists, turns and gradual inclines - for me it is better when i enjoy the ride to my destination - that is where i find my balance.
