officially over! thank heavens!
after much contemplation and some sleepless nights, we have finally decided on what and where to buy it.
recently, i found this cute little wood working shop near keith's office, so we tried our luck today on his lunch hour wihthout the tootser (ally).
as we walked inside, i could smell fresh wood and i knew i was HOME! this place sells unfinished and finished pieces in pine, oak and maple. you can choose to stain it yourself (yeah, right!) or have them stain it for 40% more (that's what i am talking about!).
if you have ever stained furniture or wood yourself, you know that they 40% is more about sanity than anything else!
the piece i chose was an 11 chest of drawers with a scalloped edge and a night stand to match. my plan is to have it stained in distressed white to match ally's distressed white iron trundle bed that will be here any day. it is perfect for a little girl who is growing like a mad weed!
i am so happy for 3 reasons:
1. i know the piece is made of solid maple, which is what i was continually fretting over when buying online, etc.
2. the chest of drawers has ample space and is perfect for when you can only truly fit one piece of furniture in a room without cluttering up space.
and,
3. the price - it was better than i had orginally thought i would pay.
the only bad news is keith and i will have to wait 6 weeks to have the finished pieces. once we do get them and set them in ally's new room, i will be sure to post pics.
her room will host watermelon colors. green on the wall and gingham pink curtains. hopefully it will look a whole cuter than it sounds :)

quick vent...
caution...emotional woman venting...
after running errands this morning, i made my way home only to find that one of the dogs (you know who...koda. maybe a little bit of logan but definitely the majority was koda) decided to play tug-o-war with ally's bed skirt, yeah, it looks like a shredder got a hold of it alright. i was so angry that i called keith to complain and then i cried. i cried for two reasons: 1. because i feel bad for getting so mad over something so materialistic as a bed skirt, because 2. the truth is that he is acting out because he has too much energy stored up and doesn't know what to do with it all.
even though i am fully aware of why he did it, it STILL makes me angry to see things in our home destroyed. especially, things that are hard to come by, like the infant bedding that was a gift and part of a matching set. grrr!
i did let him know that i was and still am not happy with him, but in my heart of hearts i get it...the bed skirt will be replaced, koda will get his exercise (mind you the dog gets a long, 2 mile walk in the morning, about 30 minutes at the dog park (if not more) when it doesn't rain and another walk before bedtime) and i will get over it. in the meantime, i think i will feed off my shopping addiciton, it always makes me feel better. well, maybe window shopping for now.
venting is now over...unemotional woman is now going to clean up the shredded pieces of the bed skirt that were left behind.

ally's world
here are some pics of our recent vacation to new york...they are way overdue, but better late than never.

ally feeding the baby animals at the long island petting zoo, this little one was hungry!

ally, grandma and i petting the baby animals (we are definitely amongst a bunch of poop). thank goodness for hand sanitizer!!

ally riding the merry-go-round with daddy. this time she didn't even cry, so we are making progress!

ally loving the shore water (later on she ended up stripping down to nothing and wading in the 50 degree water - brrrr!) she was turning a slight blue-grey color so we had to distract her away from the water until the color came back to her feet - i know, i know...parents of the year here!

preparing again and mile-markers...
i know i haven't reported anything since my last interview at NASH, and that is because i haven't heard the panel's choice of candidates yet. either way, i thought i was well prepared for the interview and equally qualified as most of the other candidates (if not a little more with all my experiences). i am optimistic, but also very realistic about these type of things. leaving PA initially probably hurts my chances a little, b/c they will have to give me a little more seniority than a fresh new right out of college teacher. i do get all that.
needless to say, i have another interview today at 11:15 in the same school district for an elmentary physical education position. once again, i am optimistic. however the preparation is a little different this time, since i am treading in fresh water...as i have never had my own elementary school program.
so with my freshly pressed suit and portfolio in hand, i will proudly represent myself and leave yet another interview with my head held high.
i am off to break a leg (not literally, of course)!
ps. i just passed the 100 post mile-marker on my blog! woohoo!

to Keith, Daddi-o, Pop-Pop, Grandpappy and all the father's celebrating their special day!
if you were like us, we had one trip to lowes in for the day, hopefully we won't be venturing out to home depot later, but it is daddy's day so anything goes!

the perfect house
it's official!
we finally found the perfect house for our family. we have been on the market for a house since last fall, and just as our search seemed to be a dead-end, a wonderful house dropped into our price range. after a bit of negotiating, we are the soon-to-be owners of a 3 story brick colonial. we will close the end of this month and be moving into our humble home on july 12th.
my favorite part of the house is the finished attic...it is perfect for a child's playroom/craft room. it has two cute little cubbies that i am using my creative ideas to make useful and 3 dormers that add lots of light. i envision lots of special times spent in that area of the house for both me and allyson.
the yard is a bit different than our last, but there is enough work to be done that will definitely keep the man of the house quite busy!
as for the bears, well, they will be loving the shady trees of our new backyard as well!
i will send some pics soon, but for now we are in remodeling, organizing and decorating mode. this is definitely a remodelers dream home. hopefully we can make it a nice place for all the visitors we hope to have stop by through the years!
